Welcome to the Monte Vista Speech and Debate Institute Website!
We're very excited that you are considering spending some of your summer with us at the Monte Vista Speech and Debate Institute. For the past 15 years, we have trained over a thousand students in the art of public speaking. Again this year, we will be offering two different camps on the Monte Vista high school campus. The first will be offered the last two weeks of July, and the second will be offered the first two weeks of August. Students entering 7th to 12th grade will be able to choose from a variety of speech and debate events including:
Public Speaking
Lincoln-Douglas Debate (LD)
Parliamentary Debate (Parli)
Humorous and Dramatic Interpretation
Prepared and Extemporaneous Speaking
Student Congress
We are also offering a Junior Institute for students entering grades 4 through 6. We created this camp because of a growing popularity among parents to send younger kids to our camp. We felt that in order to better attend to the needs of younger students, we needed to create classes with a curriculum designed specifically for the junior age group.

We will be accepting applications after June 1 on a space available basis. We will be updating this website regularly to show class availability. Below you will find classes still open as of June 6, 2008.

NEW COURSE ADDED: Parliamentary Debate
Parliamentary Debate has been added to our summer debate program by popular demand. This class will follow much of the same format as the Lincoln-Douglas Debate class but with much less emphasis on research and case development. All arguments and evidence must be based on common knowledge and prepared immediately preceding the round.
This class is strongly recommended for middle school students as an excellent and less rigorous introduction to debate and for high school students planning on participating in this event next season.
We are very excited about this year’s camps and hope to see you there!
