Monte Vista Speech & Debate Junior Institute--entering grades 4-6Monte Vista Speech & Debate Junior Institute--for students entering grades 4-6. Course Descriptions (PLEASE NOTE: the last Friday of each camp is our TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE. All students must arrive by 9:00 am and are dismissed by 1:00 pm. Junior Institute PUBLIC SPEAKING: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm Course Description: Students will participate in a variety of different exercises, activities, and improvisational games designed to develop confidence, self-esteem, and poise as a speaker. Students will learn methods of organization and other language techniques through the preparation of a variety of short speeches either informative or persuasive in nature. What students should expect to get out of this class:
*6th Grade Public Speaking course will be separate from students entering 4th and 5th grade. The 6th grade course will include all of the above but also introduce the students to debate.
Junior Institute HUMOROUS, DRAMATIC, OR DUO INTERPRETATION: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Course Description: Students will participate in a variety of different exercises, activities, and improvisational games designed to develop confidence, self-esteem, and poise as a speaker. Students will learn interpretive techniques of voice and gesture through the memorization and presentation of a 3-5 minute selection from a piece of humorous or dramatic literature appropriate to their age. Students may present their selection individually or with a partner. What students should expect to get out of this class:
